Mallard

An ultra-common site on waterways of the UK, and most definitely within Edinburgh. Colours can vary as female Mallards are somewhat... relaxed... about who they mate with (leading to the 'Manky Mallard' concept). Look for the twin curls at the end of the male's tail. Widespread they may be, but they have amber status, and the RSPB site will tell you more.
